Volunteering

“I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the community, and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can.” – George Bernard Shaw expresses a profound commitment to volunteering, viewing it as a privilege rather than a chore.

That’s how we feel at the Shaw Society, as we strive together to fulfill our mission.

Our Mission: To advance public education and appreciation of the British theatre through the plays, writings, and ideas of George Bernard Shaw (“GBS”) and his contemporaries. Providing opportunities to study, discuss and enjoy the works of GBS and his contemporaries through public performances, readings, films, lectures, talks and articles in the press and the Society’s journal “The Shavian”.

Support us by volunteering

You can support our work by volunteering in any number of capacities. We endeavour to create an environment where volunteers can contribute in a collegiate atmosphere, collaborating with other Shavians while at the same time experiencing Shaw’s work and learning about his life. We have subcommittees that handle our PRO/SM activities, our website, our society journal The Shavian, our finances and fundraising activities, our recurring and one off events, as well as all other aspects of the society’s activities.

The time commitment required as a volunteer varies depending on the committee you’re involved with, and what is happening in the society at a particular time. Ordinarily volunteering with The Shaw Society should not take more than a couple of hours in a single week, and usually this is not required every week.
We list below our currently open volunteering opportunities. Email us at volunteer@shawsoceity.org.uk if you are interested. We are also always open to hearing from anyone who has time or skills which they think may be of help to the society. Reach out with your details by emailing volunteer@shawsociety.org.uk. We look forward to hearing from you.
