The George Bernard Shaw Photographic Collection
The Shaw Society Nobel Centenary Fundraising Appeal

To celebrate the Centenary of Bernard Shaw's Nobel Prize in Literature The Shaw Society has announced a major fundraising appeal to to raise funds for a major new National Trust project. The George Bernard Shaw Photographic Collection will be housed at Shaw’s Corner – National Trust, Shaw’s historic home in Hertfordshire, which he gave in his will to the National Trust.
The project aims to preserve, interpret, and display Shaw’s remarkable photography collection, an often overlooked but vital aspect of his creative life. The collection includes photographs of many key figures from the stage, screen, literature, sport and politics from early 1900s to his death in 1950. It includes photographs of his travels. Whilst Shaw is known for writing over 60 plays including: Pygmalion, Major Barbara, Arms and the Man and St Joan, and as the author of countless articles and reviews - few people realise that Shaw was an accomplished and skilled photographer. This collection includes many hitherto unpublished photographs. The project will allow these images to be shared in a permanent exhibition and will provide a safe environment to store and preserve negatives and originals for future generations.

Our Vice-president Dame Siân Phillips explains why this collection is unique and needs to be preserved. She invites you to help this wonderful project with a donation of any size to celebrate the Anniversary of Shaw's Nobel Prize in Literature.
